About Us

I've been asked why I'm offering courses on human rights and fundamental freedoms, and what qualifies me to do so.  Fair questions.

There is no single event that started me down this path.  One event that was a factor was my experience with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC). Several years ago, after a serious car accident, I believed that the settlement I was being offered by ICBC was very low but I wanted to be sure before rejecting the offer. I knew that settlements were sometimes decided by the courts and wondered if there might be someplace I could look up court cases to compare with my own situation.  A little research led me to the Vancouver Law Library.  In just a few hours, with the help of library staff, I was able to find a number of court cases that supported a much fairer settlement than ICBC had offered.  Having copies of these court cases in hand helped me settle for more than double what ICBC had initially offered - without the need for a lawyer or court.

The ICBC matter, and a few others, began opening my eyes to the advantages of being informed; and the disadvantages of being uninformed.  I gradually became more interested in what it means to live in a system of law that recognizes human rights and fundamental freedoms.  I began buying law dictionaries and law books. I took a legal research course.  I began examining court cases.  The more I discovered, the more I developed a passion for the subject matter of law and what it has to do with individuals and their free will.  As my passion for this information grew, so did my desire to share what I was discovering.

I am not a lawyer.  I am a participant, like you, in a system of rules.  As a participant I have come to recognize the value of having at least a basic understanding of those rules.  All information offered on this site and through its courses have come about from personal experience and several years of private study and research.

I've come to be aware of the tremendous advantage of living in a system of law that recognizes human rights and fundamental freedoms.  The purpose of the Nature of Your Person is to make this awareness available to you.
